Organization Structure



Sri Lanka Coast Guard - Southern Region is extended from Hikkaduwa to Sangamankanda .

The Costal belt and the Territorial waters comes under the responsibility of Southern Region.

The Southern Region Headquarters “SLCG Rohana”and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters located at Mirissa.

SLCG Southern Region functions under the administrative and operational supervision of SLCG Rohana and commanded by the Southern Regional Director.

SLCG Rohana which presently being the premier administrative establishment in Southern region of SLCG, is commanded by the Commanding officer.

Southern Region consisted two Coast Guard substations and two Life saving points including advanced coast guard training center.

Enforcing strict safety measures for whale watchers

          At Mirissa, 20 km from the Southern tip, blue whales are spotted in their hundreds and around 20 (big and small) boats take whale watchers out to sea daily. Coast Guard ensures that only registered boats covering passenger insurance and geared up with safety equipment are permitted to go out sea for whale watching. 

Conducting coastal patrols/Conducting coastal patrols/prevention marine pollution activities

           Illegal fishing contributes to overexploitation of fish stocks and is a hindrance to the recovery of fish populations and the marine ecosystems. In order to solve this problem, the Coast Guard presently deploys FGDs to prevent all illegal fishing activities along the coastal belt from Weligama to Mirissa. Further, Coast Guard also involves in the prevention of marine pollution at Mirissa harbour area.
