Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV, USP, MSc (DS) Mgt, MA (SSS), MSc (NS & WS)
Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge studied at Nalanda College, Colombo and joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet in 1984 for the 12th Intake and successfully completed his basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee.
He completed his Sub Lieutenant Technical Course in Pakistan and became a specialist Navigator after graduating from the Navigation and Direction school, INS Vendurthy, India in 1995.
He obtained a MSc (Defence Studies) in management from the Kotelawala Defence University and MA in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defence College, Washington, USA. He has also followed the International Counter-terrorism Fellowship Programme, USA.
Rear Admiral Wimalathunge has also completed the National Security and War Course at the National Defence University in Islamabad, Pakistan and obtained MSc in National Security and War.
Rear Admiral Wimalathunge has commanded many ships and craft of the Sri Lanka Navy and had held a number of important appointments during his distinguished naval service both at the Naval Headquarters and other Naval Commands including that of Deputy Area Commander of the North Western and the Northern Naval Areas. Prior to taking up his present appointment he was the Director of the Logistics Management Cell at the Naval Headquarters.
In recognition of his distinguished service, Rear Admiral Wimalathunge has received the Rana Wickrama Padakkama, Uttama Seva Padakkama and many other medals.
He is married to Dishna and they are blessed with a 14 year old daughter Disarah and 12 year old son Sawiru.
