EXTINGUISHING OF FIRE ON 02 WHALE WATCHING BOATS AT THE MIRISSA FISHERY HARBOUR BY SRI LANKA COAST GUARD AND FIRE BRIGADE OF MATHARA

         A fire broke out in 02 whale watching boats at 2245 hrs on 14th April at Mirissa fishery harbour completely destroyed namely Speed Liner and Deep Blue which belong to the Ceylon Speed Liner Pvt Ltd.

         Sri Lanka Coast Guard boat ‘CG 12’ and emergency platoon of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rohana promptly rushed to the fire location and engaged with the fire by using all available means. Subsequently, fire brigade of Mathara (Municipal Council) engaged the fire and completely controlled the fire before spreading to other boats.

         During the operation, Coast Guard boat ‘CG 12’ executed a tremendous work by towing the adjacent boats away from the fire. As a result of that, Sri Lanka Coast Guard could able to protect a significant number of whale watching boats and fishing boats at Mirissa fishery harbour from catching the fire.
