SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RECOVERS HEROIN FROM NORTHERN SEAS

       Coast Guard personnel attached to the Regional Director Northern Region recovered a consignment of heroin weighing 9.3 kg floating in the Northern Seas 8 Nm off the Kankesanthurei harbour at 1050hrs on 12th May 2017.

       While on patrol, Coast Guard patrol boat (CG 46) detected the partially submerged suspicious parcel moored to a sinker and same brought to the Kankesanthurei harbour for further investigation. Subsequently, further investigation conducted with the coordination of Kankesanthurei Police, revealed that the consignment was heroin. The stock of heroin with a street value of aprox 90 million handed over to the Kankesanthurei Police for onward legal action.
