SLCG FOILS A SMUGGLING ATTEMPT BY SEIZING OVER 765 KG OF DRIED TURMERIC

SLCG seized a consignment of approx. 765 kg of dried turmeric while attempting to be smuggled into the Island by sea near Kadawtha, Wennapuwa on 01st December 2020.

During a special joint operation, a Coast Guard team attached to western region and Sri Lanka Navy special team seized approx. 765 kg of dried turmeric attempting to smuggle into the Island via sea near Kadawtha, Wennapuwa. The consignment had been stuffed in 32 Polysack bags as they were recovered by Coast Guard personnel. Four suspects were also arrested with a Car and two Trucks used for the smuggling attempt. The operation was conducted in complying with the COVID -19 prevention guidelines stipulated by health authorities. The seized consignment of dried turmeric with four suspects is being handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for onward investigation.

With the apprehension today, Sri Lanka Coast Guard seized over 7261 kg of dried turmeric smuggled into Sri Lanka during last three months.
