SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RECOVERED A HAUL OF KERALA CANNABIS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat CG 402 recovered a haul of Kerala cannabis weighing over 175.25 kg, in the seas North of Point Pedro, Jaffna, on 14th June 2021 in a joint operation with Sri Lanka Navy.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) have increased joint operations in the Northern waters to counter smuggling and to prevent illegal migration attempts following the spike in COVID-19 infections. As a result of these increased patrols and operations, a SLCG Fast Patrol Boat CG 402 recovered a haul of Kerala cannabis that had been thrown overboard in the seas north of Point Pedro by the smugglers during a smuggling attempt.

The consignment weighed approx. 175.25 kg had been stuffed in 06 jute sacks. Three Smugglers with a Fiber Glass Dinghy utilized to smuggle the Kerala cannabis and another 62 kg of Kerala cannabis were also seized by SLN. Suspects along with apprehended items handed over to Police Station, Kankasanthurai.
