SLCG CONDUCTED OIL SPILL RESPONSE EXERCISE AT KKS HARBOUR

The ‘Oil Spill Response Training Workshop and Exercise’ undertaken by the regional mobile training team of the SLCG Northern region was successfully conducted on 22nd and 23rd June 2022 at the KKS Harbour under the direction and guidance of RDNR.

The two-day workshop included training on oil spill response equipment and their usage, oil spill response techniques, effects of the oil spills on the marine environment, economy and social activities and shoreline clean-up techniques. On the second day of the workshop, successfully conducted a practical display of the equipment and equipment deployment exercise simulating an oil spill response incident at the Kankasanthurei harbour.

The main focus of this workshop was to enhance and develop the oil spill response capability of Coast Guard personnel in the Northern region giving opportunities for simulated training on the actual settings.

Officers and sailors from SLCG Crafts attached to the Northern region and Sri Lanka Navy, as well as the CG personnel serving in land deployments attended the two-day workshop and exercise.
