UNTIL THEY WADE-OFF FOR THEIR FOREVER HOME’ THE SRI LANKA COAST GUARD’S TURTLE EGG CONSERVATION PROJECT

Sri Lanka Coast Guard, being a pioneer in conserving nature and ensuring the existence of animal species for the future, has taken steps to preserve another endangered species; the sea turtle.

Observant eyes of Coast Guard personnel’s successfully recovered 124, 130, 132 and 119 Olive Ridley turtle eggs respectively on 12th, 13th, 14th and 19th December, 2017. Immediate action has been taken by SLCG to conserve these eggs at the Lifesaving point, Mirissa. Furthermore, another 123 and 201 eggs were found in Wellawaththa and Mt. Lavinia beaches on 17th December, 2017 and they are currently being conserved at Lifesaving point of Wellawaththa.

SLCG provides protection for these sea turtle eggs until they are hatched and fit to wade-off for their forever home!
