Followed by a request from Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Limited (CPSTL), the oil spill response management team of the Coast Guard was dispatched to Kolonnawa in order to mitigate a furnace oil spillage on 16th January, 2018. The team, specialized to tackle this type of pollutions commenced their activities on site with the clean-up teams employed by the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) together with Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) engaging as the national authority.
By the third day of this operation, 18th January 2018 the team has successfully cleared 145,000k liters of furnace oil with their unwavering effort and dedication backed by technical and logistic support provided to them by SLCG. The efforts are expected to continue for another couple of days.
