DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD JUST COMPLETED A TRAINING PROGRAMME ON ‘INSTRUCTOR TECHNIQUES’

Directorate of Training of Sri Lanka Coast Guard just completed a training programme on ‘Instructor Techniques’ at the Advance Training Centre, Mirissa from 26th February to 02nd March 2018. Ten Officers from Sri Lanka Coast Guard and five Officers from Sri Lanka Navy participated to the programme.

The Former President of Uva National College of Education, Captain (Rtd) MG Pieris (of Sri Lanka Navy Volunteer Force) was the course facilitator of the training programme on the invitation of the Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard. The programme was conducted basically in Lecture-Discussion method. Officers who participated for the programme could actively engage in teaching techniques. The course facilitator is a keen trainer who has vast amount of academic qualifications and experiences of training the teachers.

The participants were able to clarify their doubts about training and they were given the opportunity to explore knowledge especially the modern teaching techniques, education psychology, education philosophers and their philosophies and teaching methods. Further there was an open discussion on ‘How to become an effective teacher in the 21st century’. The conductor shared his much valid experiences of training the trainers with the course participants.

The course participants were also privileged to participate for a ‘River Expedition’ at Polwaththa River which was conducted under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director General, Sri Lanka Coast Guard where the participant could practically experience the ‘Event Management’ and ‘Team ability’.

The training programme was successfully completed with practical lesson planning and 45 minutes teaching session done by the course participants. The certificate awarding ceremony was conducted on 02nd March 2018 with the presence of the Deputy Director General, Sri Lanka Coast Guard and other senior officers of CGHQ.
