SRI LANKA COAST GUARD CONDUCTS BASIC LIFESAVING TRAINING FOR 100 ARMY PERSONNEL IN JAFFNA

A Mobile Lifesaving Training team of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School – Balapitiya, conducted a special basic lifesaving training programme for 100 Army personnel attached to Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna from 06th to 18thAugust 2018 at SLNS Agbo – Madagal, Jaffna.

This special training programme was initiated on the directives of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) as an initial measure to reduce drowning in the country whilst playing the leading role in drafting of National Drowning Prevention Plan. In supporting this effort, a training module was designed for three days under the guidance of Director General of SLCG and training was conducted with the close supervision of OIC, Lifesaving Training School Balapitiya. Four batches of Army personnel attended for the training and training was conducted in par with the international lifesaving standards. On successful completion of training participants were awarded with a certificate by the SLCG.

Certificate awarding ceremony was conducted at SLNS Agbo, Madagal on 18th August 2018. Sri Lanka Army 51 Division Commander Major General Roshan Senavirathne, grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and Deputy Area Commander of Northern Naval Area, Commodore Senerath Wijesooriya, Regional Director of Northern Coast Guard Region, OIC Lifesaving Training School, officers and sailors/soldiers from Army, Navy and Coast Guard attend for the ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony SLCG instructors and participants conducted an interesting lifesaving demonstration which was conducted in a highest standard. All invitees and attendees highly admired the performance of participants.

SLCG highly appreciate the cooperation and the support given by the Commander Northern Naval Area in arranging this training programme successfully in the Northen Naval area. Further, assistance given by the Commanding officer and staff of SLNS Agbo also commended by the course participants and the SLCG training staff.
