Sri Lanka Coast Guard received 02 Inshore Patrol Craft (IPCs) built by the Inshore Patrol Craft Construction Project of Sri Lanka Navy on 07th September 2018 at the official handing over ceremony held at Colombo harbour. The occasion was graced by Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy representing the Commander of the Navy and Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunga, Director General of Coast Guard.
Both IPC’s joined SLCG fleet worth Rs. 80 million were designated as CG 209 and CG 210. This 15 meter in length and 3.5 meter wide crafts are capable of reach up to speeds of 35 nautical miles per hour and. SLCG will deploy these two crafts in marine environmental protection and the law enforcement duties in coastal waters of Sri Lanka.
The Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Director General (Operations), Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, Director General (Logistics), Rear Admiral Deshapriya Hettiarachchi, Director General (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) Rear Admiral Upul Ekanayake and Director General (Engineering), Rear Admiral Ravindra Ranasinghe and a host of senior officers and sailors from the SL Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard were also present on this occasion.
