SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESPONSED FOR SEIZING OIL SPILL AT COD BAY FISHERY HARBOUR

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Oil Spill Response Management Team (OSRT) deployed in Coast Guard Eastern Region with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy responded swiftly for an oil spill incident occurred due to capsized fishing boat ‘Dulaj Putha VII’ whilst hoisting by a crane for repair works at the Cod Bay fishery harbour on 11th September 2018. Oil Spill Response Management team managed to contain and recover spilled oil during the operation.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard has already been deployed 04 Oil Spill Response Management teams comprising well trained CG personnel along with equipment covering all Coast Guard regions (Western Region, Southern Region, Eastern Region & Northern Region) in order to mitigate potential oil spill risks around the coastal belt.
