SRI LANKA COAST GUARD(SLCG) TWO MILE OPEN SEA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP – 2019

SLCG being a key organization of providing lifesaving training and performing lifesaving duties, organized a Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship – 2019 for the first time in front of the Sri Lanka Life Saving Training School, Balapitiya beach area at 0800 hrs on 16th March 2019.

The main objective of the event was to encourage the swimming activity among Sri Lankan and also to extend contribution to the national drawing and water related accident prevention programme launched by the Presidential Secretariat.

Two-mile open sea swimming championship – 2019 was organized with the approval of Ministry of Defence and event was conducted in accordance with rule and regulations of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sport Union (SLASU) and SLASU official participated as the judgers for the event. 413 competitors were participated for the Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship –2019 representing Three Forces, Police, Civil Security Force, Swimming clubs and Schools.

Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge graced the occasion as Chief Guest and many invitees as well as large number of local and foreigners gathered at the Balapitiya beach to witness the Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship –2019 organized for the first time in Balapitiya beach. Trophies/ Medals and Certificate were awarded to the winners by the Chief Guest.

  • Sri Lanka Coast Guards Director General (DGCG)’s Challenge Trophy for the best male swimmer (1st Place) finishing the competition within 75minutes won by GSN Perera from Sri Lanka Navy.
  • Sri Lanka Coast Guards Director General (DGCG)’s Challenge Trophy for the best female swimmer (1st Place) finishing the competition within 75minutes won by Kaushalya Voshini from Dolphin Aquatic Club.
  • Individual Challenge Trophy for the Youngest Male swimmer finishing within 75 minutes won by Pawan sathsara from Dolphin Aquatic Club.
  • Individual Challenge Trophy for the Youngest Female swimmer finishing within 75minutes won by Nirwani Nimsara from Polhena Aquatic Club Matara.
  • Individual Challenge Trophy for the oldest swimmer finishing within 75 minutes won by SM Chandrapala from Kinros Swimming & Life Saving Club.
  • Individual Challenge Trophy for the differently abled Male swimmer won by HCCN Perera from Sri Lanka Army.
  • Sri Lanka Coast Guard shield for Team Championship Trophy for the Forces and police swimmer finishing within 75 Min won by Sri Lanka Army.
  • Individual Challenge Trophy for the best school swimmer Boys won by Pasindu Kawshalya from Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda.
  • Individual Challenge Trophy for the best school swimmer Girls won by Shehara Anuhansi from Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda.
  • Men’s Team championship shield won by Sri Lanka Army.
  • Women’s Team championship shield won by Sri Lanka Army.
  • Medals were awarded to the first 15 (male and female) winners.

    SLCG is looking forward to continue the Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship as an annual event of SLCG . This event will promote swimming among all citizens of Sri Lanka and also to discipline themselves in the spirit of sports.
