SRI LANKA COAST GUARD CELEBRATES NEW YEAR FESTIVAL IN A GRAND SCALE AT MIRISSA.

The annual New Year festival organized by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard was held at Sri Lanka Coast Guard Head Quarters Mirissa at the dawn of Sinhala and Tamil New year on 11th April 2019.

The Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunga graced the occasion as the chief guest and after lighting the traditional oil lamp, the proceeding of the festival was officially commenced.

Deputy Director General Commodore YMGB Jayathilaka, All Directors, senior and junior officers and their family members, large number of senior and junior coast guard men and their family members were also present at the event.

The colorful events, comprised with the traditional and unique games of new year celebration such as marathon race, grease pole climbing, pot cracking, musical chairs, tug of war, eating buns, fancy dress, selection of coast guard awrudu kumaraya and etc, were held attracting participants of all age groups. On completion of the folk games grand musical show was launched in the evening giving opportunity to unfold the talents of coast guard personnel with attendance of few popular artist to mark the end of the New Year celebrations.
