SRI LANKA COAST GUARD AND DEPARTMENT OF WILD LIFE CONSERVATION ENTERED IN TO A MOU

Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Department of Wild Life Conservation entered in to a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on operation and training procedures of Wave Rider Inshore Patrol Craft acquired from Sri Lanka Navy by Wild Life Conservation Department for assisting whale watching regulatory operations at Mirissa.

The MoU was signed by Rear Admiral GDAS Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV, USP, nswc,MSc (DS) Mgt, Director General of Sri Lanka Cost Guard and Mr. MGP Sooriyabandara, Director General of Wild Life Conservation Department representing two institutions with the witness of Captain YR Serasinghe, Director Operations of Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Mr. Channa Suraweera, Assistant Director (Marine) of Wild Life Conservation Department on 17th July 2019 at Coast Guard Rear Headquarters, Wellawatta.

The MoU will enable SLCG to provide necessary training and operational competencies to the representatives of Wild Life Conservation Department for handling/ operations of Wave Rider Craft and this will surely enhance the whale watching and marine mamal regulatory mechanism enabling fast development of the tourism industry connected with marine sector.
