SRI LANKA COAST GUARD ASSISTS PEOPLE AFFECTED BY EXTREME WEATHER IN SOUTHERN REGION

Following the extreme weather condition affected across the country, Sri Lanka Coast Guard deployed rescue and relief teams in flood affected areas of Southern Region to assist needy people for evacuation operations and distribution of basic needs,on the directives of Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard in coordination with Sri Lanka Navy, respective Divisional Secretariats, Police and Disaster Management Center.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard teams engage in rescue and relief duties in areas of Malimbada, Thihagoda, Kananke and Walipitiya in Matara district from 24th September 2019 onwards and more relief teams are kept on standby in Western Region as well to deploy at short notice.
