MARITIME LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE PHASE II

A group of twenty four (24) Coast Guard personnel successfully completed ‘Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor Development Course Phase II’ and received certificates from Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG); Commodore YMGB Jayathilaka RSP, USP, BSc (Hons) at the closing ceremony held last week.The course was arranged by the US Embassy in Colombo under its Export Control and Related Boarder Security (EXBS) Program and conducted at the SLCG Advanced Training Centre, Mirissa from 06th January 2020 to 17th January 2020.

The focus of the course was to refine the instructor techniques and increase the instructional proficiency in SLCG Instructors who previously attended same kind of training programs. Four (04) instructors from SLCG conducted the training program and three (03) supervising instructors from United States Coast Guard (USCG) provided advanced instructions for both local trainers and trainees. Twenty four (24) participants consisting of ten (10) Officers and fourteen (14) Senior and Junior Sailors from Sri Lanka Coast Guard participated the course as trainees. Both trainers and trainees were benefitted specially by performing of maritime law enforcement defensive tactics such as handcuffing, frisking techniques and use of intermediate weapons. Simulated practical exercises were conducted onboard Sri Lanka Navy passenger ship A 543 at Galle Harbour on 15th and 16th January 2020.

Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest and EXBS Advisor, EXBS Coordinator and Deputy Defence Attaché at the US Embassy also participated for the event.
