SRI LANKA COAST GUARD (SLCG) TWO MILE OPEN SEA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP – 2020

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) successfully conducted the 2nd edition of annual Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship – 2020 at the sea front of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School, Balapitiya at 0830 hrs on 15th February 2020.

SLCG being a key stakeholder in providing lifesaving training and performing lifesaving duties in Sri Lanka, organized this open competition with the objective of encouraging the swimming activity among the communities and also in support of the national drawing and water related accident prevention programme launched by the Presidential Secretariat.

The competition was conducted with the approval of Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education, and in accordance with rules and regulations of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sport Union (SLASU). SLASU officials participated as the judgers for the event where over 600 competitors participated representing 33 swimming clubs including Tri Forces, Police, Civil Security Department, and schools.

Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV ,USP ,nswc, MSc (DS) Mgt graced the occasion as Chief Guest and many invitees as well as large number of local and foreigners gathered at the Balapitiya beach to witness the Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship –2020. Trophies awarding ceremony was held with participation of the Chief Guest, Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, Deputy Director Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Deputy Area Commander (Southern Naval Area), Chairman Aquatic (SLN), and Chairman Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS).

Dilanka Shehan from Sri Lanka Army won the men’s championship while school girl Shehara Anuhansi from Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda emerged as women champion. 1st, 2nd and 3rd places winners bagged cash prizes in addition medals and trophies.

Individual Challenge Trophy for the Youngest Male Swimmer: Ovin De Silva from Gampaha District Swim & Life Saving Club.

Individual Challenge Trophy for the Youngest Female Swimmer: W Senithma Methdini from Yoshida Shokanji International School.

Individual Challenge Trophy for the Best Veteran Swimmer Men: SM Chandrapala from Kinross Swimming & Life Saving Club.

Individual Challenge Trophy for the Best Veteran Swimmer Women: GH Nandani from Civil Security Department.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard shield for Team Championship - Trophy for the Defence Services: Sri Lanka Army.

Individual Challenge Trophy for the Best School Swimmer Boy: NHR Dilshan from Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda.

Individual Challenge Trophy for the Best School Swimmer Girls: Shehara Anuhansi from Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda.

Men’s Team Championship Shield: Sri Lanka Army.

Women’s Team Championship shield: Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda.

Marking a special gesture, Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard presented special gift for only blind competitor took part, Khalid Osman appreciating his participation for this event.
