SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDS 57 KG OF KERALA CANNABIS IN NORTHERN SEAS

A craft attached to Northern Region of Sri Lanka Coast Guard apprehended two persons with a haul of drugs commonly known as Kerala Cannabis on 24th June 2020, during a patrol off Analativu Island in Northern Seas.

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations to prevent illegal drugs being smuggled in to the island via sea routes. During the operation, Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat managed to search and seize about 57kg of Kerala Cannabis hidden in a Fibre Glass Dinghy while crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.

The accused who are 33 and 38 years of age were identified as residents of Pesale,Mannar. The suspects along with the apprehended haul of Kerala Cannabis and boat were handed over to the Kayts Police for onward legal action.
