COAST GUARD ARRESTED A PERSON WITH 15KG DOLPHIN MEAT

Based on information received Coast Guard personnel attached to CGS Beruwala arrested a person with 15kg of dolphin meat on 07 August 2018. Arrested person with Dolphin meat was handed over to officials of department of wild life, Hikkaduwa for further investigation and legal action.

As per the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act of 1996 it is prohibited to catch, land, transport, sell, buy, receive or have in possession any marine mammals. Marine mammals observation is one of the main tourist attractions in the country and many people are engaged in this industry.
