SLCG APPREHENDED 423 KG OF THRESHER SHARKS ON BOARD A FISHING VESSEL

Coast Guard personnel attached to Fishing Monitoring Post Negombo, apprehended a fish catch of 423 kg of Thresher sharks on board Fishing Vessel Sahan Putha which returned to Negombo Fishery Harbour on 20 September 2020 after 24 days of fishing.

Thresher Sharks are a protected species under Sri Lankan Law and it is illegal catch, retain onboard, transship or land any part of thresher sharks (Fins, Carcass) under the Sharks Fishery Management Regulations – 2015.

The Illegal Fish catch and fishing vessel along with 06 crew members handed over to Fishery Inspector, Negambo for legal action.
