SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDS 111 KG OF KERALA CANNABIS IN NORTHERN SEAS

A Fast Patrol Boat (FPB) attached to the Northern Region of Sri Lanka Coast Guard recovered 05 sacks of Kerala Cannabis at North of Kovilan sea area on 11th October 2020.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard conducts regular operations in northern seas to prevent illegal drugs being smuggled into the island via sea routes.

During such an operation on 11th October, Sri Lanka Coast Guard FPB detected a suspicious boat attempting to smuggle drugs to Sri Lanka. During the pursuit, the suspicious boat escaped towards land throwing neatly wrapped sacks of Kerala Cannabis overboard. SLCG FPB recovered05 sacks of Kerala Cannabis (approx. 111kg). The boat and the suspects also later arrested by the coast Guard personnel on land.

Arrested haul of Kerala Cannabis, accused and the boat handed over to the Illavalai police station after disinfection under stipulated health guidelines to prevent Covid – 19 for onward action.
