A Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) attached to the Western Region of Sri Lanka Coast Guard arrested 02 Indian boats with a consignment over 5000kg of dried turmeric being smuggled into Sri Lanka in two occasions in consecutive days.
Sri Lanka Coast Guard conducts regular operations in the South of Mannar sea area to prevent contraband being smuggled into the island via sea routes. During such operation, SLCG FPV seized over 5000 kg of dried turmeric smuggling into Sri Lanka in the seas off Kudiramalai, in Gulf of Mannar on 23rd and 24th October 2020.
Seized consignment of dried turmeric has been taken under custody after disinfection according to the stipulated health guidelines to prevent Covid – 19 for onward action and two Indian boats with 11 Indian nationals being repatriated to India.
