SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A MULTIDAY FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel attached at Cod bay fishery harbour, Trincomalee for fishery monitoring and regulating duties, apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with five fishermen in possession of illegally harvested 25 No’s (Approx. 900 g) of dried shark fins and dried shark flesh (Approx. 28.4 kg) on 05th January 2021.

The Multiday Fishing Vessel returned harbour after a three week’s long fishing and the apprehended items were hidden in the vessel’s engine room and on upper deck as they were found by the Coast Guard personnel.

The apprehended items and arrested persons were handed over to Additional Director, Fisheries, Trincomalee for onward legal actions under the Shark Fisheries Management Regulations, 2015.
