Eighty four (84) sea turtle hatchlings born out of 115 turtle eggs conserved at Wellawatte under SLCG Waruna were released to the sea on 20th February 2021.
A number of locals and foreigners assembled to the location to witness the rare scene of turtle hatchlings crawling towards sea from the beach.
Under the SLCG Turtle Conservation Project, maximum efforts have been taken to conserve turtle eggs in their natural habitats or nearby safe places.
So far in 2021, a total of 5540 turtle eggs are being conserved at conservation units under Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
