The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post Gopalapuram, Trincomalee saved three lives in a successful rescue attempt on 22nd March 2021.
Three local (21 years of age) males from Vavunia were rescued around 14.30pm on 12th March whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Gopalapuram Beach.
The swift responses by skilled life savers of Coast Guard managed to bring back hope for all three drowning youths despite heavy current prevailed in the area.
Sri Lanka Coast Guard has established 18 Life Saving Posts at public beaches to ensure the beaches are safe for beachgoers. So far, Sri Lanka Coast Guard life savers have rescued a total of 1551 invaluable lives including 703 foreigners in a number of successful rescue attempts.
