SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RECOVERED A HAUL OF KERALA CANNABIS WORTH OVER RS. 55 MILLION IN NORTHERN SEAS

During a joint operation with SLN, Sri Lanka Coast Guard FPB CG 402 recovered a haul of Kerala cannabis weighing over 183kg, in the seas north of Kankesanthurai, Jaffna, on 03rd May 2021.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy have increased joint operations and patrols in the Northern waters to counter smuggling and to prevent illegal migration attempts following the spike in COVID-19 infections. As a result of these increased patrols and operations, a SLCG Fast Patrol Boat was able to recover a haul of Kerala cannabis that had been thrown overboard about 14 nautical miles North of Kankesanthurai by the smugglers during smuggling attempt. The consignment weighed approx. 183.9kg with over Rs. 55 million street value and had been stuffed in 58 parcels in 04 sacks.

The operation was carried out adhering to COVID-19 protocols in force for the prevention of the Covid 19 pandemic and the haul of Kerala cannabis held was set on fire and destroyed.
