SRI LANKA COAST GUARD THWARTS ANOTHER ILLEGAL MIGRATION ATTEMPT

A special operation conducted by Coast Guard personnel attached to CG Station Chilaw with the assistance of Police Station, Chilaw arrested 30 personnel whilst preparing to migrate illegally to a foreign country by sea at a house at Samindugama, Chilaw on 14th May 2021.

The subsequent interrogation revealed that the 30 individuals in the house with the intention of migrating to a foreign country via sea route. Among the apprehended individuals were the racketeer who organized the illicit migration and 29 males in their 30s and 40s. They are residents of Jaffna (15), Mullaitivu (07), Batticaloa (06), and one each from Wellawaya and Chillaw.

The group of suspects were handed over to the Chilaw Police station for onward investigation and further legal action complying with Covid 19 health guidelines. Sri Lanka Coast Guard is committed to thwart any attempt of illegal migration via sea routes.
