COAST GUARD RECEIVED SAFETY EQUIPMENT FROM EXPOLANKA HOLDINGS PLC

Sri Lanka Coast Guard received a Rs million worth safety equipment and protective gears as a donation from the Expolanka Holdings PLC on 29th June 2021. Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake formally received the stock of safety equipment from the Head of Compliance & HSES, Expolanka Holdings PLC. Maj General (Rtd) Ubaya Medawala at Coast Guard Rear Headquarters.

SLCG has been actively engaged in responding maritime disasters in Sri Lankan waters in coordination with other stakeholders. In the event of recent distress of MV Xpress Pearl, SLCG is contributing to mitigate the marine environment pollution and to restore the marine echo system by involving observation of oil/chemical spills at sea, protecting marine sensitive areas by deploying oil booms/fences and debris collection and shore cleanup operations. The received safety equipment and protective gears are immensely useful for the Coast Guard oil spill response and shore clean up teams.
