COAST GUARD RELEASES 108 SEA TURTLES HATCHLINGS TO SEA

Hundred and eight(108) sea turtle hatchlings born out of 137 turtle eggs conserved at Mirissa under SLCG Rohana were released to the sea on 24th July 2021.

Under the SLCG Turtle Conservation Project, maximum efforts have been taken to conserve turtle eggs in their natural habitats or nearby places to ensure safety.

176 carcasses of turtles with throat and shell damages have washed ashore since the distressed vessel MV X - press Pearl burned and sank off Colombo. Therefore, the recent release of turtle hatchlings is a positive sign of recovery of the marine environment.
