COAST GUARD APPREHENDED FREEZER LORRY WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS

Based on information gathered by Intelligence staff of Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), successfully apprehended a Freezer lorry along with five persons in possession of illegally harvested Shark fins on 04^th September 2021. The operation was conducted with the assistance of SLCG personnel deployed at Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties.

They were able to found 185.2kg of dried Shark fins which was concealed in the freezer lorry inside the harbour perimeters. Preliminary investigation revealed, Shark fins were collected from several multi-day Fishing Vessels during past few days and prepared to drawing out for sale.

Freezer lorry and arrested persons were handed over to Fisheries Inspector, Beruwala for onward legal formalities.
