WORKING TOWARDS IMPROVING WATER SAFETY KNOWLEDGE AMONGST ARMED FORCES

In view of improving water safety knowledge and drowning accident response skills among the members of armed forces, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, conducted a Basic level Life Saving Training course for Army and Air Force personnel at Life Saving Training School, Balapitaya from 13th to 17th September. Five Army and ten Air Force personnel have passed out having successfully reached the qualifying requirements to serve as basic level life savers. The Army and Air Force participants have shown a great enthusiasm to acquire related knowledge of water safety and rescue methods during the course. These life savers will be an added advantage for the respective forces to expand the role of responsibility of qualified personnel in times of demand and disseminate water safety knowledge amongst others. The course was conducted under the directives of Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard while adhering to the covid 19 health guidelines. So far, Sri Lanka Coast Guard has provided Basic level life saving training for 395 Air Force and Army personnel.
