FOUR FISHERMEN ARRESTED FOR ENGAGING IN ILLEGAL FISHING PRACTICES

Sri Lanka Coast Guard patrol craft deployed off Trincomalee area to deter illegal activities arrested/apprehended 04 fishermen with FGD whilst engaging illegal fishing on 27^th October 2021. They were engaged in purse seine net fishing operation in seas off Salli Sambalativu area close to land (approximately 02 km). According to the existing fishing operation regulations, purse seine net fishing are authorized only in the area beyond 11.2 km from the coast.

Arrested/apprehended fishermen and items handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries of Trincomalee for further legal action
