SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FISH AND FINS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Cod Bay Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with seven fishermen in possession of illegally harvested Shark Fish and Fins on 30th October 2021.

The apprehension was made while inspection carried out onboard Multiday Fishing Trawler and found 17 dried Shark Fins (approx 01Kg 400g) and 06Kg 450g concealed on the top of the roof onboard when they returned after fishing. Retaining, transshipping or landing the ‘parts of any shark species’ is an offence under the Shark Fisheries Management (High Seas) Regulations, 2015.

The arrested persons with apprehended items were handed over to Assistant Director Fisheries, Trincomalee for onward legal actions.
