The inaugural ceremony of the Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) Instructor Course was held on 1st November 2021, at Weligambay Villas Resort, Mirissa. Two officers each from Special Boat Squadron-SLN and Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) have joined the training program in order to qualify as competent VBSS Training Instructors and this training is considered as a great opportunity for them to upgrade themselves as regional VBSS instructor. The programme is sponsored by the Global Maritime Crime programme (GMCP) of the United Nations Office of Drug and Crime (UNODC) and two well qualified foreign instructors are conducting the course.
Furthermore, this is another significant training event facilitated by SLCG's Advanced Training Center under the purview of the Regional Capacity Building Program. The Director Training, Captain (G) JGDAK Jayaweera RWP, RSP, USP, psc presided over the inaugural Ceremony while Instructors of the UNODC, Officer in charge of the ATC, and instructors represented the event respectively.
