United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) sponsored Vessel Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) Instructor training programme was successfully completed on 18th November 2021. The training programme was conducted at Weligambay Villas Hotel, Mirissa by Advanced Training Centre of SLCG with the assistance of UNODC.
Two Officers from Special Boat Squadron-SLN and one officer each from SLCG and SLN have successfully completed the course and awarded with the certificates at the closing ceremony. The Deputy Head of GMCP-UNODC, Ms. Siri Bjune awarded the certificates and Director Operations SLCG Capt(N) Buddhika Jayaweera represented the SLCG.
Ms. Siri Bjune, congratulated all course participants for successful completion of the course and specially expressed her appreciation to the SLCG for continuing participation and cooperation with GMCP - UNODC for enhancing regional law enforcement training activities. At the end, mementos were presented by the Director-Operation SLCG Capt(N) Buddhika Jayaweera to Mr Craig Lunn (Senior Instructor UNODC) and First Lieutenant (Maldives Defence Force) Mohamed Habeeb in appreciation of commendable support providing to develop capacity building of the SLCG and to mark this memorable occasion of closing ceremony.
This was another accomplishment of combined efforts of UNODC, GMCP and SLCG which ensures the continuing capacity building of the SLCG and SLN members to prevent internationally organized maritime crimes globally. Further, SLCG and UNDOC were looking forward to conduct many collaborative training programmes in future.
