ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS APREHENDED

Number of apprehensions observed to be ever increasing to incidents of illegal fishing in Western area. Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed on fishery monitoring and regulating duties, arrested seven fishermen in possession with 1.8 Kg of dried sharks’ fins AM 7^th Jan 2022 at Beruwala Fishery Harbour.

Retaining, transshipping, or landing the ‘parts of any shark species’ is an offence under the Shark Fisheries Management Regulations 2015 of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources act No 2 of 1996.

The arrested persons with apprehended items were handed over to Fisher Inspector Beruwala for onward legal actions.
