CONSECUTIVE ARREST OF ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS AT BERUWALA

Recording another consecutive arrest of illegally harvested sharks’ fins at Beruwala Fishery Harbour, Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed on fishery monitoring and regulating duties arrested four fishermen in possession with 850 g of dried sharks’ fins AM 8^th Jan 2022.

Retaining, transshipping, or landing the ‘parts of any shark species’ is an offence under the Shark Fisheries Management Regulations 2015 of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources act No 2 of 1996.

The arrested persons with apprehended items were handed over to Fishery officer Beruwala for further legal actions.
