ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARKS’ FINS APPREHENDED - BERUWALA

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed in Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties, have arrested five fishermen possessed with 1250 grams of dried sharks’ fins on board multiday fishing vessel “Senpathi 01” on 13^th January 2022.

Detection of illegally harvested sharks’ fins at Beruwala Fishery Harbour was very frequent incident and trans shipping, or landing the ‘parts of any shark species’ is an offence under the Shark Fisheries Management Regulations 2015 of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources act No 2 of 1996.

The arrested persons with apprehended items were handed over to Fishery Inspector Beruwala for onward legal actions.
