SRI LANKA COAST GUARD ARRESTED TWO PERSONS WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED TURTLE MEAT

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Chillow and Thuduwawa arrested two persons in possession with illegally harvested ‘turtle meat’ (approx. 30 Kg) in Uluhitiyawa area on 23^rd January 2022.

The arrest was made while fishermen transferring turtle meat in Thudawa area and nature loving local gentlemen provided information on this wrong act. Possession of turtle or any part of turtle or the meat or eggs of turtle is an offence under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.

he arrested persons with apprehended items were handed over to the Department of Wildlife Conservation officers at Anawilundawa for onward legal actions.
