SLCG INITIATED CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATIONAL ECONOMY

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) took a step to train lifesavers with the aim of contributing to the country’s economy under the direction of Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard. The concept of ‘Sports Economy Promotion’ brought out by the Minister of Sport and Department of Sports Development, Sports Medical Unit National Youth Crops jointly collaborated with SLCG to initiate this training. Under this concept, youths of having interests in the life-saving profession will be given proper training from the Coast Guard Life Saving Training School (LSTS) to improve their cognitive and skill level of aquatic incident response and drowning prevention to save lives.

The first training program was launched as a pilot project with the participation of Director General Sports Development and Director General Sports Medical Unit, Assistant Director Training of National Youth Crops, and Director Training of Sri Lanka Coast Guard at the LSTS on 01st February 2022.

This programme was initiated by the department of sports development and sports medical unit of the ministry of youths and sports. The National Youth Corps collaborates with LSTS for developing soft skills of life saver trainees. The qualified youths will be given opportunities for overseas jobs in the field of life-saving.

The Director General, department of sports development addressing the event indicated high possibility and confidence in getting foreign job opportunities in this field and appreciated the dedicated contribution of all agencies for making this initiative a success. Therefore, this new initiative will open new opportunities for job seekers in the field of life saving and can be produced well-qualified candidates for the overseas skilled job market.
