SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESCUED FIVE FISHERMEN IN DISTRESS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard rendered assistance to rescued five fishermen from a distressed Sri Lankan Fishing Vessel ‘Sampath 1’ (Reg. No. IMUL-A-0631 KLT) off Bundala on 01st February 2022.

The multiday fishing trawler which had gone for fishing on 31st January 2022 from the Beruwala Fishery Harbour with five fishermen had collided with a reef off Bundala area.

Promptly responding to the request for assistance, the SLCG deployed two FGDs to assist the fishing trawler and fishermen in distress. Upon reaching the distressed trawler, the coastguardsmen rescued five fishermen and abandoned the trawler due to prevailing rough sea condition and returned to Kirinda Fishery Harbour with rescued fishermen.

Further, SLCG deployed FGDs to search for possible oil spills in the area and rendering assistance to relevant authorities to recover the distressed Fishing Trawler.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Coast Guard remains vigilant and committed at all times to assist fishing communities victimized by unexpected hazards at sea.
