COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO FOREIGNERS AT RISK OF DROWNING

The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Benthota rescued two foreigners, during successful rescue attempts on 05th February 2022. A 31 years old lady from Bahrain and a 32 years old lady from Serbia were rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Benthota beach.

The swift responses by skilled life savers of the Coast Guard managed to bring back hope for drowning foreigners despite heavy current prevailed in the area.

This programme was initiated by the department of sports development and sports medical unit of the ministry of youths and sports. The National Youth Corps collaborates with LSTS for developing soft skills of life saver trainees. The qualified youths will be given opportunities for overseas jobs in the field of life-saving.

So far, Sri Lanka Coast Guard life savers have rescued a total of 1651 invaluable lives including 718 foreigners in a number of successful rescue attempts.
