COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO CIVILIANS AT GOPALPURAM BEACH

Lifesavers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Gopalpuram beach, Trincomalee rescued two local males during successful rescue attempts on 16th February 2022

A group of youths who had come to the Gopalpuram beach on vacation and had gone to bathe in unsafe swimming area. Three of them were drowned and dragged away by strong currents near Gopalpuram beach.

A 28 years old male from Nalanda, Matale and 21 years old male from Thalawakele were rescued by Sri Lanka Coast Guard rescuers while the other one was dragged away by the strong current and his body was later found washed ashore on the Adukkupadu beach.

So far, Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers have rescued a total of 1660 invaluable lives including 722 foreigners in a number of successful rescue attempts.
