SRI LANKA COAST GUARD ARRESTED TWO PERSONS IN POSSESSION OF A LIVE TURTLE

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Thoduwawa arrested two persons in possession of a live turtle in Iranawila beach on 15^th February 2022.

The arrested was done when fishermen were returning ashore after fishing based on the information provided by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel. Capture, kill, injure or possess sea turtles or their eggs is an offence under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.

The arrested persons with apprehended live trutle were handed over to the Department of Wildlife Conservation officers at Anawilundawa for onward legal actions.
