COAST GUARD RELEASES 343 SEA TURTLES HATCHLINGS TO SEA

Three Hundred and Forty Three (343) sea turtle hatchlings hatched from 363 turtle eggs conserved under the SLCG Rohana at Mirissa and Life Saving Post Hikkaduwa were released safely into the sea on 17th February 2022.

Under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP), every effort has been made to conserve turtle eggs in or around their natural habitat to ensure safety.

In 2022, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard released 763 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea and is conserving 5147 turtle eggs at the moment, in hatcheries close to the SLCG Life Saving Posts/ Establishments as a part of the duties and functions of the SLCG to assist in the conservation of marine species.
