Sri Lanka Coast Guard has conducted collaborative training programme with the assistance of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) - Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP)where provided valuable training pertaining to Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) handling. The Chief instructor UNODC, Mr Stuart Melville and Cpl Joshua Resteiner, Secondment Officer UNODC from Seychelles have conducted initial training module for five CG personnel including one Officer and four Sailors at the Sober Island Resort Trincomalee. During the training they could gain the theoretical and practical knowledge of RHIB manoeuvring, skills and maintenance. Further, this type of training is very much vital for the SLCG personnel to conduct Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations at sea. The course was commenced on 28th February 2022 and successfully completed on 11th March 2022. The certificates awarding ceremony was held at Sober Island Resort Trincomalee and the Commanding Officer of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) Sri Lanka Navy, Capt (SBS) WMN Wickramasinghe and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Acting Regional Director Eastern Region (A/RDER) LCdr (H) WWPGBJ Jayawardhne, were grace the occasion and awarded certificates to the course participants.
The next module will be commenced from 14 Mar to 25 Mar 22 at Trincomalee for another group of CG personnel include one officer and three sailors.
