FOURTH 10KM OPEN WATER SEA SWIM CROSSED FINISHING-LINE IN SEA OFF COAST GUARD LIFE SAVING TRAINING SCHOOL

The Annual national 10km Open Water Swimming Championship was conducted on 20th March in association with Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union. Health concerns of COVID 19 has been dragging the conduct of 10km national swimming championship. However, breaking long years of silent the Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard directed Life Saving Training School to extend fullest support to resume the championship in view of promoting long distance open water swimming events in the country. This year national championship was held in both men’s and women’s categories with presence of large number of spectators and the trophies awarding ceremony of the championship was graced by the Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Commodore Janaka Nissanka.

Nirodh Thikshana of Lion’s Swimming Club, Ambalangoda was the first swimmer to reach the finishing line to win the men’s category followed by THKSI De Silva and AMAS Abeysinghe while Seneshi Herath representing the Visaka College, Colombo won the women’s title followed by Hiruni Maheshika.

The overall men’s championships was won by Sri Lanka Army followed by Lion’s Swimming Club, Ambalangoda. Visaka College, Colombo also won the women’s championships ahead of Lion’s Swimming Club, Ambalangoda.
