SLCG SEIZES A HAUL OF 66.6 KG KERALA CANNABIS IN NORTHERN WATERS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat CG 409 commanded by Lieutenant KRP Kaluaggala OCG 0578, while engaged in patrolling in the Northern Sri Lankan seas today, 31st March 2022, seized 66.6 kg of Kerala cannabis. The operation took place at 12 Nm North of Kovilam Light and nabbed 03 suspects along with a dinghy in the incident. The consignment was stuffed in 02 gunny sacks each containing 15 packets. Of the trio involved this racket, one suspect was 24 years of age and the others were of 20 years old. They were identified as the residents of Madagal West and Mullaitivu areas. The apprehension was conducted adhering to the COVID-19 pandemic prevention protocols to avoid possibilities of the transmission of the pandemic. The perpetrators along with Kerala cannabis and the fibre glass dinghy (FGD) will be handed over to Ilavalai police station, Madagal for onward legal action. Meanwhile, the street value of the seized stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs.12 million (SLR)
